My Virtual Open House

Welcome to the Open House for my new website and home of my blog, Strengthened by the Word. I’m beyond excited to greet you in my new virtual home.  My name is Cathy – I’m your host and tour guide today. 🙂

This site has been on my wish list for a couple of years and in various phases of development for several months. I’d like to give a shout-out to Shawn at Series 5 Technology  – you provided oversight, hand-holding and patience throughout this project while letting me hold the reigns. I’m exceedingly grateful and I’ve learned a lot from you.

To launch the site and publish my first new post here certainly give cause for celebration! Thank you for being one of the first to stop by and look around. Please know I’m still tweaking a few things, and probably will be forever and ever. But we do that in our physical homes too, right? We continually move décor from here to there, or rearrange the furniture, or rehang our gallery walls. I hope you’ll check back from time to time and see what’s new.

I hope to show you around and help you become better acquainted with this ministry. This is akin to an open house that you might attend for someone’s new home. I hope you enjoy this virtual open house, the historical narrative, and a bit of behind the scenes information. I expect it to be a lot of fun.

Let’s begin, shall we?

Strengthened by the Word Blog

Here, where you’re “standing” right now, is the home of my blog. I started this blog in 2010 with four (yes, 1-2-3-4) readers, including myself. My entire “tribe” lived under the same roof. My focus all those years ago, and as it remains today, is to demonstrate how God’s Word is alive and active in our everyday lives. I am on a mission to help women grab hold of the joy of the Lord – even when life feels jumbled.

In my early blogging days, inconsistency was my keyword. I blogged sporadically and in streaks as mood, ideas, and time converged.  Writing occurred around full-time parenting and activity schedules, a full-time job, full-time women’s ministry (including writing and publishing two women’s Bible studies), and even a full-time political campaign for my husband. Often these full-time activities were simultaneous and stacked atop one another. I considered the blog a hobby and a way to share my heart about Jesus. It somehow squeezed into the nooks and crannies of my life.

The Lord began to press me in a need for consistency and gave me a sense of urgency to share His message. I began to take blogging seriously and felt it become His calling on my life. Time, or what I felt as lack of time, could no longer serve as an excuse. The occasional posting was no longer acceptable – to Him, I felt, or to myself. Consistency took hold. While I don’t hit the mark perfectly, I’m considerably more consistent than I was back then. I feel my writing is stronger, my audience is (finally) growing, and I share about a variety of topics as the Lord leads. To Him be the glory.

(I’ve brought along posts from May of 2017 to this new site. To view the blog history archives, you can click here.  You’ll immediately recognize why I’m so excited about this new website!)

Other Aspects of Ministry

The Home Page of this website provides a summary of all the different pieces of the ministry. Everything began with the blog, and the ministry has grown and branched out from there. God’s Word is of utmost focus, with multiple aspects of teaching and inspiration intended to help you dive into the Bible in ways that are most effective, comfortable, and reasonable for you.

Bible Study

The upcoming Bible study, Lord, Teach Us to Pray, is available in person (in my home if you’re in the Brighton, Colorado area) or online (because most of you live nowhere close to me). God has given a burning passion to help women grow in Him and He’s shown me that many of us (maybe most of us) are uncomfortable in our prayer lives. Well let’s grow in that. There’s no room for feeling embarrassed or insecure. Let’s start where we are, learn together, and become prayer warriors in the process.

I also offer two published Bible studies: Victorious (a study on the life of Queen Esther), and Finding Joy in the Journey. In response to your requests, I also provide a journal that accompanies Victorious. You can find more details about these books here.

These are a brand-new addition to the ministry. I’m coming out of the gate with Make the Most of the Time. I believe God gives each of us a Kingdom assignment – a purpose and a calling that He places on our lives. When we feel His prompting, we often look at our busy schedules and think, “I can’t possibly take on one more thing. You must not mean this for me, Lord.” This free, 3-session course teaches Biblical priorities and provides a practical, hands-on approach to help remove the barrier of time in your service to the Lord. Together, we’ll learn effective ways to make time for what matters most.

The launch date is right around the corner – September 12, 2017. This course is free for a limited time, so jump in and take part!

Video Devotions

Months ago, I felt God prompt me to provide a concise daily video devotion series for those who feel they don’t have time dig into His Word. The videos are intended to view while eating breakfast or putting on your makeup each morning – to focus on Him and let His Word fuel your day. There are a few other videos included in the collection with more to come.

I adore encouraging and ministering to women by speaking to groups. If you have a gathering and would like a speaker, thank you for considering me. As an event coordinator myself, I understand that budgets are often tight and have vowed to do all that I can to work within existing ministry (or group) budgets. I recognize that this is the Lord’s ministry and I am His servant for whom He generously provides. He’s provided opportunities to speak in intimate gatherings of 3-4 women in my own community, to international groups, and large events of 100-200. All settings thrill my heart. Contact me here for more information.

Faith Coaching

This is a service that’s not yet outlined on the website but is near and dear to my heart. If you’d like to meet one-on-one to receive coaching, accountability, and encouragement in your walk with God, please contact me. The consultation visit is free with ongoing fees that start at $25 per session, whether in person or via Skype. (Price is subject to change).

All in all, please know that this ministry is for God first with a heart to minister directly to you. If you have questions or specific needs, I’d love to hear them and will respond as I’m able.

Now For Refreshments

This is the part where we’ll have to imagine that I can offer you refreshments. Instead of cookies and punch, however, I hope you’ll feel even more deeply refreshed by the Lord’s encouragement found throughout the site.

Thanks again for stopping by. It means the world to me. And now that you know where I “live,” I invite you to stop by anytime and become a regular visitor. In fact, sign up for my newsletter or leave a comment below, just as if you were signing my guest book. 🙂

Be strengthened today, by His Word,
